Bicycle and pedestrian accidents in Orlando are on the rise. Whether it is our beautiful weather, high number of tourist walking around, or those getting to and from work, Florida has become one of the most dangerous places for bike riders and pedestrians.

At one time or another we have all been a pedestrian. “On average, a pedestrian was killed every two hours and injured every seven minutes in traffic crashes,” according to the National Highway and Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The CDC recently reported Florida has more than twice the number bicycling deaths per year, than any other state.

Nationally, Florida had the highest bicycle fatality rate per capita, as well as the highest pedestrian fatality rate, according to a report by NHTSA.

Orange County has become a very dangerous place for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Orlando area was rated one of the most dangerous metro areas to bike or walk in the United States! Bicycle riders in Orange County who are involved in car accidents have the highest fatality rate, over one a month.

Pedestrians in Orange County involved in car crashes had the 4th highest fatality rate in Florida.

It was reported in 2016, 6,659 people where hit by vehicles while riding their bike and 133 of them were killed. These are a very high number.

Though there are many factors that can contribute to pedestrian and bicycle accidents, reckless and distracted driving are the top cause.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident it is important you get the compensation you deserve. Injuries, both physically and mentally, can last a lifetime. Medical bills and lost wages can add up quickly. It only takes a second for the driver of a vehicle to get distracted and cause a devastating accident. Attorney James P. Kelley is on your side.
